South Portland Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) offers medication-assisted treatment — also known as MAT — for adults age 18 and older who are suffering from opioid addictions. MAT takes a whole-person approach to opioid addiction treatment, using both prescription medication and counseling to support patients as they pursue long-term recovery. Research supports the effectiveness of MAT, and respected organizations such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recommend MAT for the treatment of opioid addiction. At South Portland CTC, we offer methadone or Suboxone as part of each patient’s treatment plan. These medications can provide relief from the distressing symptoms and drug cravings associated with opioid withdrawal and help patients focus on recovery. Our CTC also provides individual and group therapies to guide you during treatment. Therapy, which forms a key part of MAT, can allow you to safely explore your thoughts, feelings, and emotions and develop strategies that may help you avoid relapse. MAT may also help you improve your social functioning and maintain employment, among other benefits.
