Clients needing detox from alcohol and other substances receive medical monitoring and withdrawal management from nurses and doctors on staff, helping ensure a comfortable start to recovery. Pyramid Healthcare also offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to help reduce substance cravings, especially for opiates and alcohol.
Pyramid Newport News Outpatient Treatment Center offers trauma-informed individual therapy, implementing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and peer support meetings. Clients engage in group therapy, including life skills groups, peer support groups, and 12-Step groups. Pyramid Newport News offers expressive therapy like art therapy and recreational therapies such as sport or outdoor exercise. Outpatient programs offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT), substance use assessments, individual psychotherapy, group therapy including skill building and psychoeducation, and peer recovery support services. Their full continuum of care includes day treatment, meeting about 6 hours per day, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) meeting 9-12 hours per week, and traditional outpatient treatment, which meets 6 hours or less per week, depending on individual need.
Located at the mouth of the James River, Pyramid Newport News Treatment Center provides access to residents throughout the Newport News, Norfolk, and Chesapeake area. The 105 bus line stops just outside the building on Blair Avenue and provides service throughout southern Newport News. Clients driving to the building have convenient access to Norfolk and Chesapeake via I-664 and I-64, with free parking available at the hospital and on Chesapeake Avenue.
