Communities throughout the United States continue to be negatively affected by epidemic levels of opioid abuse and addiction. One of the reasons why opioid addiction is such a devastating disorder is that the pain of withdrawal can quickly overwhelm a person’s efforts to stop using this substance. But when a person begins their recovery journey at North Florida Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC), they can receive research-supported services to help them end their opioid abuse and build a foundation for successful, long-term recovery. Our CTC offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for adults who have developed addictions to heroin, prescription painkillers, and other opioids. MAT is an evidence-based approach that combines prescription medication with counseling. The medications that we prescribe help relieve the distressing symptoms of opioid withdrawal, allowing people to end opioid use more easily. The counseling component of MAT at North Florida CTC helps adults address the behavioral, emotional, and social aspects of opioid addiction and recovery. During counseling, adults can develop the skills that will help them live healthier lives without abusing opioids.
