Tewa Roots Society is a nonprofit behavioral health and clinical service provider based in Nambé Pueblo, New Mexico. Established in 2018, they are dedicated to addressing the mental health and substance use challenges prevalent in Indigenous communities. Through a person-centered approach, Tewa Roots Society integrates comprehensive clinical wraparound services and community-focused group programs tailored to the unique needs of each group. Their mission is to provide innovative and accessible evidence-based services to support clients, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Experience Culturally-Informed Care
Tewa Roots Society offers a range of services, including adventure therapy, art therapy, talk therapy, substance use counseling, and clinical case management. These services are available to individuals, couples, families, and groups through in-person sessions and telehealth. The organization also provides referrals and financial assistance for clients in need of residential treatment for substance use disorders. Priority of services is given first to Nambé Pueblo Tribal members, second to Indigenous community members, and lastly to all residents of New Mexico.

A distinctive feature of Tewa Roots Society is its Therapeutic Adventure Program (TAP), which applies adventure-based experiential education principles to enhance mental health. Activities such as rafting, kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, and camping are used to increase mindfulness, problem-solving abilities, coping mechanisms, and relationship-building skills
