Carolina House offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP) in Durham, North Carolina, for people age 17 and older of all genders who are struggling with anorexia, bulimia, and other eating disorders. At our outpatient treatment center, clients can receive care while still fulfilling their daily responsibilities, such as attending school or work. Clients can enter outpatient care directly or transition to treatment from a more intensive level of care. Typically, the duration of our IOP is 30-60 days, and clients participate in three-hour treatment sessions five days a week. We offer a range of diverse services in our IOP, including individual, family, group, and experiential therapies that are led by highly trained eating disorder treatment specialists. Our therapies are informed by dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to meet the unique needs of each person. In group therapy, discussions may cover topics such as nutrition education, healthy coping skills, body image acceptance, and relapse prevention strategies.
