The opioid crisis continues to devastate individuals and families across the nation, and far too many people have lost their lives to an overdose. Bangor Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) helps adults overcome addictions to opioids like prescription painkillers and heroin by using a specialized approach called medication-assisted treatment (MAT). This research-backed method addresses opioid addiction from a holistic standpoint through a combination of prescription medications and counseling. The medication portion of MAT addresses the physical aspects of addiction by easing opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms. This can allow a person to function better because they’re no longer under the influence of opioids, so they may be able to drive, work, and be more social again. The counseling aspect of MAT takes this a step further by addressing the emotional and behavioral aspects of addiction. In counseling sessions, participants can make behavior and lifestyle changes that are crucial to recovery. The combination of medication and counseling can be powerful, leading many people to achieve lasting sobriety.
