Cumberland Heights offers residential programs on two plots of land, 177 acres for adults and 67 acres for adolescents, located just outside Nashville, Tennessee. The facility has gender-specific and age-specific programs that aid in treating alcohol and substance use disorders, and co-occurring mental health disorders. Cumberland Heights is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1966. The center uses evidence-based therapies such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, family systems work, trauma informed care, and 12-step facilitation. Their programs include detox, residential, adult extended care, and intensive outpatient programs (IOP). Cumberland Heights accepts a few major insurances, and during admission they can determine what benefits the client has and what is covered. Cumberland Heights is accredited by the Joint Commission and is one of the first in Tennessee to be American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) level 3.7 care certified.
Cumberland Heights’ accommodations are gender and age-specific. They offer hiking, arts and crafts, a music room, yoga studio, and day school for adolescents. The center can accommodate up to 95 clients for the male and female adult programs. Cumberland Heights offers comfortable bedrooms with 2 people per room and a shared bathroom. All meals are prepared by chefs and can accommodate dietary preferences. A pay phone is available and can be used in the evenings to keep clients in contact with loved ones, but personal devices are prohibited. A gym and game room are available on alternating days based on gender and age. Clients can enjoy local outings, such as hockey and minor league baseball games. On site, they offer a softball field, a regulation frisbee golf course, full basketball court, climbing wall, and a ropes course.
